Following the new trends in cycling nutrition, the protein bars and other energy products have evolved the same way as the helmets, bib-shorts or other specific cycling equipment have.

Eating energy bars during exercise prevents sudden hunger and provides the energetic dosis required under great physical effort. At the same time these are foods with a good taste, easy to eat, easy to digest and quickly assimilated.
Ingredients and nutritional values are the main factors to take into account in order to choose a stick or an energy gel correctly. B vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are components that benefit us and act directly against deficits and aggression caused by intense physical activity.
It is important to make a distinction between the bar and the energy drink, the energy contribution of an energy bar (138 kcal for a 40g bar) is 5 times higher than 100 ml of an energy drink. However, the protein plus beverage has a faster and more continuous uptake as the bar since the latter requires digestion.
Generally it is recommended to consume a bar every hour. If the exercise is prolonged for several hours you should also eat lightly, e.g. nuts or bananas for their high caloric value. In case of a sharp increase in pace in the final part of the journey or path it is important to consume one or two additional bars next to a power gel .
